KPG WEEKLY NEWSFLASH 13 NOVEMBER 2009

Filed Under On Newsletters Nov 13 2009

Hello again,

Is it just me or has this year flown by? We’re half way through November already! Boy this seems crazy! So much to do in so little time – I am SURE you can relate! Listen up… Marg is in the office ALL weekend and is available to take your calls on 9966 5425 regarding casting workshops for your kids (see PAWS below).

And with just 16 days until TRIBUTE, please ensure that you all have the 22nd of November in your diaries for the big dress rehearsal and please note the times for your child’s attendance at the rehearsal (these times are on the notes handed to the kids this week).

ACTING FOR SCREEN TOUR TO LA: All details have now been finalized and everything is full steam ahead. Marg has secured the opportunity for students to be seen by casting directors at the conclusion of the workshops at Young Actors Space. This is an amazing opportunity and one that we are excited to offer KPG students. We are thrilled to introduce you to Jasmine Graham who arrived today from LA. She is here to finalize all the details for the LA tour and to assist with the Professional Actors Workshop Series. Jasmine runs the LA operations for AIPA and is just wonderful! You have all been very patient with regards to tour arrangements and I am sure you have lots of questions! Jasmine is here for just one week, so if you would like to talk to her or make an appointment to see her, please call us and let’s get you organized! A reminder that the tour takes place 7 – 26 January 2010, Hollywood, LA for actors aged 10 – 20 years of age.

(PAWS) PROFESSIONAL ACTORS WORKSHOP SERIES: Message from Marg… If you have to live on baked beans in November to get to one of these workshops, believe me it will be worth it! Casting directors start arriving next week and I cannot stress how important it is for all KPG students to attend at least one of their classes. Actors with credits cannot get in front of these people and we are bringing them to you! A talent development project like this has never been done before. Parents are always asking me: “What should I do for them? How do I find them an agent?” or “they haven’t auditioned in months, what can we do?” My answer is I am working really hard in the US to promote Australian talent. I am designing KPG classes to reflect industry trends and I am succeeding in bringing VIPs to see our kids.  These Casting professionals include Joseph Middleton, casting director of the Twilight series, Legally Blonde, The Bourne Identity and many other notable films; Paul Weber, Head of Casting at MGM Studios; Lisa Beach, whose casting credits include Walk the Line, Role Models, 17 Again and countless other Hollywood films.

The Professional Actors Workshop Series will run from 19th – 30th November 2009 (inclusive) and has been designed for actors who are contemplating a move to LA in the near future or who have a keen interest in the LA industry. The series has been put together by casting professionals for actors.  We all recognize that there is a need for a genuine series of workshops so that emerging Australian actors can work with the American decision makers.  Actors will get honest feedback about their performance.  There are no promises of employment, representation or O1 visas. As any agent of repute knows, if a studio wishes to employ an International actor, they will get the paperwork done.  Very few truly talented actors can afford to up and move to LA, even though they may work when they get there. As 2010 is shaping up to be a bumper pilot season, we decided to bring ten of LA’s top casting directors to Australia, so actors can workshop with them, learn and be seen. Booking is open and places are limited. For more information click on the link http://www.performingartstours.com.au/ShowPage/114.html or call us on 9966 5425. Marg will be in the office ALL WEEKEND to take your calls on 9966 5425.

TRIBUTE: Sat 28 November at 4.00pm at Monte Sant’ Angelo College Theatre, 128 Miller Street, North Sydney. Show fees: Please remember that all show fees need to be paid before concert date. Children will not be issued with their costumes until full show fees are settled in full. ($45 for the first costume and $30 for every subsequent costume). Rehearsals: Updated rehearsal times are being given out this week by your child’s teacher. Just a reminder that the first dress rehearsal will be on Sunday 22 November and the second/final dress and tech rehearsal takes place at Monte on Saturday 28 November from 1pm. Please ensure that your child has sufficient snack food on the day and the show will start at 4pm sharp. Parking: You may drive into the school grounds to drop your kids off at rehearsal but you may NOT park there. Please enter through the 1st gate (staff car park only) closest to the corner of Miller and Berry Streets. Please note this is for drop off only and not to park. Please do NOT enter through the main entrance on Miller Street – there is simply no room. If you need to park your car in order to bring your child into the school, please use the metered parking in Miller Street. At performance time, please park on Miller or Berry Streets and there is also a paid parking arcade located opposite the school in Miller Street. Tickets: Tickets are now on sale at the KICK office. You will also be able to purchase tickets at the door. Seats are unreserved and prices are Adults: $31; Concession for pensioners and under 16s: $21 and kids under 3 years of age $3.

DRAMA COMPANY 2010 AUDITIONS: If you would like to audition for Company for next year, the audition date is Friday 29 January from 4pm. Please email your expression of interest to kpg@aipa.com.au and we will send you the information required for the audition. For more information about Drama Company, please visit our website on www.kickperformancegroup.com.au  - go to classes and click on Drama Company.

IMPROVCAMP 2010: Registration is now open! Check out the new website on www.bestcampever.com.au to book and get ready for the time of your life! Come find us on Facebook too.

DRAMA COMPANY TERM 4: Please note that Drama Company for term 4 will run for 6 weeks only, ending on Saturday 28 November, after TRIBUTE. Your term fees will be calculated accordingly together with your show fee. A reminder that all term and show fees are due at the beginning of term. (If Marg decides to run special Company workshops for the last 2 Saturdays of term, being the 5th and 12th of December we will let you know).

ANGELINA’S STAR PERFORMANCE: English National Ballet’s performances of Angelina’s Star Performance at Melbourne’s State Theatre in January 2009 were a sell-out smash hit. Now, you have the chance to see eight dancers from this world-renowned Company performing Angelina’s Star Performance at Sydney’s State Theatre. Angelina Ballerina has been given the honour of putting on her very own performance of The Sleeping Beauty for the Queen in her splendid palace. It’s Angelina’s biggest challenge yet… will she manage to pull it off? This magical introduction to ballet for children is a rare chance to see Angelina Ballerina dance her pirouettes and grand jetés live on stage! “Judging by the response of an opening night audience liberally sprinkled with tiny ones, it seemed to go down a treat…. climaxing in a shower of glitter and the blessings of the Queen. It’s enough to tickle almost anyone’s inner child.” The Times. The State Theatre, Sydney December 10-13, 15-16, 22-23. Performances:  11am, 2pm and 5.30pm. Running time: 1 hour & 15 minutes including a 20 min interval. Suitability 3-8 years. Bookings Ticketmaster.

BALLET LEOTARDS: We have had some requests for purchase of pink and black ballet leotards. If you have some you would like to sell, please speak to the office.

TRINITY EXAM CERTIFICATES: Just a reminder to all those who starred in The Big Bad Musical in June. Your Trinity Exam Certificates are here at the KPG office. Please collect them in person as we do not want them to get damaged in the post.

OPEN CLASSES TERM 4: Just a reminder that with all the concerts happening this term, there will be NO open classes or grandparent’s classes this term.

TERM DATES: Please note that the last day of term 4 at KPG is Saturday 12 December. Start dates for 2010 are yet to be advised but will follow the school terms as closely as possible.

2010 KGP TIMETABLE: For now, the timetable remains as is. We will be making some changes to the RAD ballet days and times and Marg will be adding some new and exciting programmes based on current trends in the US and UK. Please be patient – we are doing our best.

KPG WEEKLY NEWSFLASH 8 AUGUST 2009

Filed Under On Newsletters Aug 7 2009

Dear KPG Member, We’re so glad to see you all back in the swing of things here at KICK and look forward to an amazingly fruitful term! Hopefully you are now all settled and ready to go. If there is anything worrying you – please remember you can call me! My number is 9966 5013 and I am here most days 9 – 4. URGENT CHANGES TO JOSEPH: Please do not report for rehearsals this Saturday 8 August! I have just been informed that the rehearsal schedule is changing and that after auditions, some kids will be asked to be here Saturdays and some on Mondays and some both! Please be patient – I will provide you with this info as soon as I have it. I can tell you that there will most probably be 2 shows and probably on the last weekend in November! We are trying to lock down a suitable venue. Please do not call me for more information as I really do not have it but I will soon and will send out a special broadcast regarding Joseph. I apologize for any inconvenience. Also, just a reminder that any kids under the age of 8 who want to be in the musical do not need to come to these special rehearsals. They should rather enroll in general KPG classes as ALL KPG kids will be in the show. KICKSTARTERS KINDY, YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2: Teachers are very concerned that some kids still do not have the correct dance shoes for some of the classes. Your children’s feet are still growing and by SafeDance standards, they have to have the correct shoes. Genuine Jazz and Ballet shoes are required. Please email us if you are unsure of what to purchase and we will get the teachers to contact you personally. RAD BALLET AT KPG: Miss Val welcomes all new ballet girls too Monday’s RAD classes. If you are interested in enrolling your child in these classes and would Miss Val to assess your child, please call the office and we will set it up. TWINKLE TOES/ LET’S DANCE / MOVE AND GROOVE: Our little movers and shakers are a delight to have around and they are having a fantastic time in class. The teachers have asked if you could PLEASE take your children to the toilet 10 minutes before the class. This way the class gets to start on time and there is very little disruption during class for toilet time. Parents, please do your best here! Also when the kids warm up they take off their cross over jumpers are some are not labeled which causes some confusion for the little ones. Please label all items – especially shoes! DRAMA COMPANY REPORTS: Mid-year reports will be handed out to Company this Saturday 8 August. Please note that all fees need to be up to date in order for you child to receive their report. A short message from some of the Company teachers is that if your child has missed too many of their classes, they would have been unable to present a report on that class. Reports may be collected at the office. AST: Entries are now open for The Australian Screen Tests! We are very excited about the number and caliber of casting directors from top Los Angeles studios who will be joining us this year. We will post a list of confirmed judges soon on the AST website. Please visit www.australianscreentests.com.au for more information! ACTING FOR SCREEN TOUR TO LA: Auditions for this tour are being held at Kari Harris casting on 1 and 2 August. For all the info, please visit www.performingartstours.com.au - please check this site regularly as changes beyond our control do occur, but for now, the dates are set! WILLOUGHBY STREET FAIR, 12 SEPTEMBER, 2009: Lizz will be getting a troupe together for this day to perform and take part in the parade. We will keep you informed as to who will be involved - but due to safety reasons, this will be open mainly to older kids. Watch the newsletter for updates! DATES FOR YOUR DIARY: In term 3, Grandparents Week is scheduled to take place 24-29 August and Open Class Week (for parents and siblings to watch) is scheduled to take place 7-12 September. JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLORED DREAMCOAT: Can’t wait to get back on stage? Rehearsals for our next musical production, Joseph, begin in Term 3. Joseph is also our end of year concert in which everyone will perform. However, if you are looking for a lead or ensemble role, you will want to enrol in the Joseph Performing Arts Workshop (PAW). The PAW meets Saturdays 9:30am-12:30pm and is for anyone aged 3 - 30 years. Our little KICK starters and any kids under 8 don’t need to worry about coming to those rehearsals as you will all be in the show and will cover your singing, dance or drama scenes in your classes through the term. Triple Threat kids that want to join the PAW will need to move to the Saturday afternoon or Tuesday evening Triple Threat class. If you have a class that clashes with the Joseph rehearsals - please don’t panic, talk to me and we will work it out. The PAW will commence the first Saturday of Term 3 and auditions for specific roles will be held within the first few weeks of term. Please enrol for this PAW as you would any other KPG class. There is a $65 show fee for all KPG students which includes a cast t-shirt and costume hire. Costs for the PAW is $150 per term for the rehearsals and musical theatre exam. This excludes the show fee. (See website for details).

RAD BALLET AT KPG: Under the guidance of Val Lloyd, we will be running RAD ballet classes for those kids who would like to continue to progress with their RAD exams. Your current ballet classes will remain – but the Monday afternoon will now be in place to get the RAD work within KPG stabilized. (RAD ballet kids need to do more than one ballet class per week). Classes will be graded accordingly after Miss Val has had time to assess the kids. Fees will be based on numbers per class. Please contact me to express your interest in this class and for availability. For those of you who may be concerned that this will clash with the musical in terms 3 and 4, please be advised that the rehearsal days for musicals may be changing altogether. I will be in touch with you regarding class times.
